性狀與用途：黃白色蠟狀固體或膠狀體；具有香氣，味極苦。水溶液顯中性或弱堿性反應，振搖時產生多量泡沫。在水或乙醇中極易溶解，屬季銨鹽陽離子表面活性劑。在水溶液中離解成陽離子活性基團，具有凈潔、殺菌的作用。潔爾滅性質穩定，耐光、耐壓、耐熱，無臭味、無揮發性。在醫療手術時廣泛用于皮膚和手術器械的消毒，也廣泛用于殺菌、消毒、防腐、乳化、去垢、增溶等方面。又是陽離子染料染腈綸纖維的勻染劑。
潔爾滅包裝：50公斤/塑桶 ，遮光，密閉保存；在運輸過程中，應小心輕放、防撞、防凍、以免損漏。
潔爾滅使用方法：將醫用潔爾滅配成1：1000的水溶液，用于手術前醫務人員雙手浸泡消毒。創口感染的洗滌消毒可用0.01%濃度的潔爾滅溶液。禽畜欄舍、谷物倉庫、蠶室以及蘑菇、白木耳等經濟作物的養殖場所和器具，可用2～5%的潔爾滅溶液噴霧消毒。本品還用作漿糊、明膠及照相膠片的防腐劑。
潔爾滅毒性：本品毒性極低，無積累性毒性。對皮膚和粘膜的刺激性很小。對金屬、橡膠、塑料等器皿無腐蝕作用。殺菌效果顯著。
